With open mouth, she gasped for air as her eyes rolled at the back of her head as if she was being exorcised. Her body quivered with so much passion. She wrapped her arms around him, caressing his back and massaging his head. Lucas ran his tongue on her neck up to her ears, nibbling them. It tickled her and caused her to scream in delight.

He ran his right hand down to her cockpit and slid his fingers inside her, fingering her pussy for proper lubrication. Right after, he thrust inside her; the head of his dick stretched her virgin-like pussy. He pushed himself into her, but she was too tight for his massive dick so he thrust forward, and this time even harder, making her scream at the top of her voice.

He kept thrusting in and out of her until he felt her warm cum squirted all over his manhood. Soon after, he also exploded and deposited his semen into her.

  Chapter Twelve

  Overthrown

The aroma of the bacon sizzling on the frying pan woke them up. Lucas was sitting at the table with a cup of instant coffee while reading the newspaper like what he’d seen on the television. He was trying to act like a human – and it felt unnatural.

“That smells nice,” Samantha said, inhaling the smoke into her nostrils.

“Go and take a sit. The eggs are almost ready.” Anna cracked another egg and threw the shell into the trash can.

Samantha pulled a chair and sat down.

  Vincent sat next to her.

She pinched a piece of cheese and read the headline of the newspaper Lucas was reading. “What are you reading?”

“I don’t know how to read.”

Anna turned in his direction with a stunned look on her face. She didn’t say anything to avoid offending him, and instead, she tossed the omelet over.

  “Really?” Samantha asked.

Anna gave her the look to keep her mouth shut.

“I mean… you don’t really need to know how to read. You’re already smart anyway. I’m the one who’s supposed to be reading my lecture. My professors will rant at me for the late essays I have to write,” Samantha said as she grabbed a handful of cheese, mouthing it all at once.

Anna cut in. “You might have to stop for the semester until we get this sorted.”

“I can’t. I’m going to be delayed for graduation.”

“Well, we’ve got no choice. It’s way too dangerous out there.”

“She’s right,” Lucas butted in. “You can no longer go back to your normal life, especially not in this city.”

Samantha frowned with dismay. “Why is that?”

“Once a human has been in contact with a wolf, the dark shadows think that they’re an ally.”

Her heart skipped a beat. “Does it mean they’ll kill me?”

  Lucas didn’t reply.

She shifted her gaze to Vincent and looked at him intently. “Is it true?”

He nodded with a sad look on his face.

Tears welled up in her eyes as the reality had sunk into her. She looked at Anna and sighed. “What did we put ourselves into?”

Anna took off the apron and grabbed the plate of fried eggs. Walking to the table gave her time to think of an answer because she, herself, did not know how this would work out. Placing the dish on the table, she took a deep breath. “Everything is gonna be fine.”

“No, it’s not. We need to return to New York today–”

  “We can’t. We don’t have a car.”

“Yes, we do; the one they’ve stolen.”

Anna scowled with great dismay. “It’s not ours and if we’re seen driving that car we’re gonna be in huge trouble.”

“We’re already in huge trouble, anyway.”

“Samantha, listen okay, those people out there aren’t real humans like us. They’re vampires and they’ll kill you like what they’ve tried before and I’m not gonna let you risk your life.”

She rose up, pushing her chair back. “Being with these two will endanger us even more. They’re aren’t humans so why should we trust them?”

  “Samantha!”

Vincent looked at her with a surprised look on his face. He thought she had a genuine feeling for him, but it seemed everything she’d done for him was all due to sympathy. A stab of pain struck him on the heart, making him want to hide from her presence.

“I’m sorry, Anna, but I can’t keep on hiding like this. I want my normal life back.” She turned around and walked toward the door. “I’ll go and get mom.”

She rolled her eyes in exasperation. “She’s so stubborn!” she murmured to herself.

As soon as Samantha grabbed the doorknob, Lucas and Vincent sensed the presence of some uninvited guests. In a panic, they looked at each other as their eyes turned black. It was already too late before one of them got the chance to warn her not to open it. As soon as the door swung open, three unknown visitors stood on the porch.

  “Hello, darling.”

A nasty look of wonder had registered across her face. “Who the hell are you?”

“Theresa!” Lucas yelled as he stood up and marched in their direction.

  “You know them?!”

“Samantha, please step aside,” he said, warning her as he sensed Theresa had a desire to harm her.

Samantha rolled her eyes at Theresa and sighed. “I can’t believe this. Werewolves are invading New York and soon the entire world,” she said carelessly, heedless she had offended their feelings.

Theresa’s eyes turned black and her fangs came out like sharp needles. “Bitch!” She grabbed Samantha by the neck and pushed her against the wall. The force she was exerting on her neck was enough to kill her in a second. Unexpectedly, Vincent struck Theresa’s hand off Samantha’s neck, pushing her away.

Chris and the other lycan who accompanied them to the mainland were furious. They wanted to choke him to death but kept themselves still. This was between them and they couldn’t intervene. It was her duty to defend herself.

“Bastard!” she spat out in great indignation. Her sharp nails came out and scratched him on the face, severely affecting his left eye. Blood oozed out and the pain throbbed on his flesh, but he remained quiet, his eyes were fixed on the floor. He knew one wrong move could deteriorate the situation and put Samantha’s life in much peril.

Lucas got on the way and stood between them. “That’s enough,” he said, holding her down as to avoid causing further injuries on Vincent.

“Get off me!” she spat out.

He let her go and calmed himself down. “None of you is supposed to be here. I’ve strictly forbidden that no one should step out of the forest until we’ve returned. Who’s given you the authority to disobey my command?” he yelled in an angry manner, his face turned red and the veins on his forehead surfaced.

Chris stepped in. He was glaring at him with those eyes that could turn one to ashes. “How could you say such thing when you’re the one who’s abused your own authority for your selfish benefits?!”

Lucas was taken aback. A look of confusion appeared on his face. “What the hell are you saying?”

“Oh, please!” he snapped, spitting on his face. “Do you think we’re stupid like you? We’re not blind, Lucas. We know that you’ve followed that human because you’re running away from your responsibility. If you can’t stand for them, then I will.”

He held his breath. “Don’t construe my intention for being here–” he said calmly, trying to explain himself, but Chris rudely cut him off.

“Fool yourself, but not us – especially not me. I’ve known you for far too long and I’m not gonna buy into your lies. Enough is enough. Someone has to stand for the pack, and I’m the rightful leader who could lead them to victory,” he said with great pride in his voice.

Lucas’ jaw clenched tight. He wanted to punch him, hoping to bring his senses back to his head. “You can’t just appoint yourself to be an alpha–”

“The jury has spoken and Aiyana has blessed me, so you’re now under my authority. And I hereby declare you’re now an outcast – never to return to the forest or else risk losing your life.” He gave Lucas a chilling look that spoke of his intention to kill him.

A spoon slipped from Anna’s hand and Theresa looked in her direction. Her eyes narrowed as she glared at Anna, scrutinizing her from head to toe. She sniffed her from where she was standing and a chilling revelation sent shivers up her spine. Goosebumps covered her arms and her heart raced out of her ribcage the moment she sensed Lucas’ blood forming in her womb. She was bearing his child.

“No, this can’t be true…” she whispered under her breath.

Anna picked up the spoon, trembling. “I’m sorry!”

Theresa brought her gaze to Lucas. “Who is she?”

“She’s the one who helped us out when Vincent got shot by a dark shadow. Don’t mind her, she’s no use to us,” he said, trying to isolate the conversation between them.

“Did you mate with her?” she said without excuse.

Everyone turned their eyes on him.

Anna held her breath and crossed her fingers. Sweat dripped down her forehead as her stomach churned in anxiety.

He let a rather absurd laugh to brighten the mood, but Theresa felt really insulted at it because she knew he was going to lie. “She’s a human,” he said, giggling. “You’re the only one I make love with so please let’s stop with this crap because we have many important things to worry about. Dark shadows have spread rapidly and their weapons have evolved at a greater–”

“How dare you?!” Tears of betrayal trickled down her cheeks as she swung her arm and slapped him so hard his ears literally rang from such force. “You’re a shame to our kind, you filthy dog!”

“Lucas!” Anna ran to his aid.

But he stopped her. “Stay out of this. It’s between my kind, not yours…”

Seeing the attention he was giving her, Theresa couldn’t help but growl in exasperation. She couldn’t believe he’d chosen her over them. She pushed him away, plunging him against the wall, and then ran toward Anna with her sharp claws out and pointed fangs.

Anna trembled in terror. The one thing she’d learned from her training was that, be resourceful at times of danger. And this was surely one of them. She grabbed a stool and held it up as a shield.

“You’re a whore,” Theresa accused, swinging her arms at her in an attempt to knock her down.

But Anna came way too aggressive. She hit her with the stool and broke its legs on her head, making her fully dizzy. But with a little shaking of her head, she regained her consciousness back and this time she got even more infuriated.

Anna stood with her eyes gleaming with worry. She knew she had provoked her and she would do just about everything to kill her. “I-I’m sorry! I didn’t mean–”

Without a word, Theresa snatched the broken stool from her and threw it aside. She swung her right arm and Anna covered herself with her forearms, but Theresa’s left hand found its way on her face, knocking her to the floor. Her vision whirled around. She could see stars above her. Gasping for air, she felt a volt of pain on her head as Theresa pulled her hair and threw her against the corner, slowly torturing her to death.

“Anna,” Samantha cried out. “Help her out!” she yelled to Vincent, hitting him helplessly. But he stood still and let his tears trickle down his cheeks. If he helped Anna, he would surely taste his own death and Samantha would be left vulnerable. Because when a wolf fell in love, they’d do everything to protect their lover till they breathe their last.

Lucas shook his head and brushed the debris off his shoulder. Anna’s agonizing scream alerted him. He turned in her direction and saw Theresa dragging her by the hair as she plunged her on the table. Quickly, he rushed toward them and pushed Theresa away just as when she was about to stab Anna on the chest and pull her heart out.

He took Anna to his arms and embraced her. She was bombarded with bruises and deep cuts all over her body. Her face was swollen and her lips were popped. But thank goodness, she was still breathing just fine. She was a heck of a tough woman!

“I’m sorry, I’ve put you in so much trouble,” he whispered in her ears as he caressed her on the head, combing her hair.

Feeling Lucas’ warmth was enough to quench the pain and heal the wound. Anna laid her head on his arms and closed her eyes, tears trickling down her cheeks. She had never imagined being so dependent on a person before… Being with him gave her strength and vigor to fight and conquer everything that was on their way – it didn’t matter whoever or whatever creature that could be. Because everything that mattered was him. And him alone.

Theresa felt a sharp knife lunging through her; the pain was gut-wrenching that she couldn’t do anything but suppressed the pain and held her tears back. She didn’t want to appear desperate. She picked herself up and walked passed them with her head down.

Chris put his hand on her shoulder and tried to pull her close. “It’s okay.”

She shoved his hand off of her. “Let’s go. We have to put an end to this. I don’t want to return here ever again.”

  Chapter Thirteen

  The Formula

After the long wait, Edward had finally found the right formula. His eyes were sunken deep and the bags under his eyes were like dark eyepatches. It looked as though someone gave him a hard punch, causing a sore black eye. He hadn’t slept a wink for a week now and he’d lost so much weight that he weighed like a kite, easily drifted by the wind. His and Maverick’s lives depend on this formula and he hoped it wasn’t too late for Valentine to accept it.

He had perfected the formula just the other night and he had not taken a second look at it to make sure he’d done it right and the formula could be reproduced by anyone without his assistance. Though his body refused to work, he forced himself up and headed to the laboratory. His vision blurred out from exhaustion, but he knew it wasn’t the time yet to celebrate.

He grabbed the testing tube containing the blood of a lycan and used a dropper to take a sample and then put it on a watch glass. He did the same with the other tube containing a human blood, but this time he mixed it in with the lycan’s blood and put the mixture under the microscope. A look of so much gladness had brightened his face.

“It’s working,” he whispered under his breath, crossing his fingers that the mixture would bond and form a new set of cells.

At first, the cells were fighting each other off, but because lycan’s blood’s structure had so many similarities with that of human’s, they had found a common ground to combine. After a couple of minutes, the new set of the formula was formed – but things did not end there. A special chemical had to be added to secure it. Edward grabbed the dropper and took a drop of silver nitrate and mixed it in with the mixture. The silver nitrate smoothly blended well with the mixture.

A sigh of relief had escaped out of his lips. “Finally, I’m done! I’m freaking done!” he yelled in excitement, stoked that Valentine would be delighted to hear the news. But at one point he paused and thought of testing it first before presenting it to him.

Without wasting time, he grabbed the testing tube containing a pure lycan’s blood and dropped the mixture into it. Quickly, he jumped to the other side of the room and hid behind the wooden cabinet as if it would do any good when the explosion happened. He closed his eyes and waited for the violent reaction.

A couple of minutes had ticked by, but nothing happened. He frowned and wondered what was wrong with the procedure, so he walked back to observe. But half way through it, the tube started boiling violently and before he could make it to safety, the mixture exploded, blowing him against the wall. The equipment, furniture, and windows were blasted into disorder; they were torn into pieces.

The ceiling was cracked, but it didn’t collapse – though a piece of it where Edward was lying down snapped from the position and fell on him, bringing his consciousness back. The ceiling was made of light material so it didn’t hurt as much as being blown against the wall.

He shook his head as his smile stretched to his ears. “It worked!” he said with disbelief. “It really worked!” He rushed out of the door, grabbed the mixture, and went on his way to report to Valentine.

  Chapter Fourteen

  A Legend’s Goodbye

  Quarter past nine pm.

Chris and Theresa observed the train station; they sensed a strong presence of dark shadows in this area. The best of their packs were behind them, waiting for their signal. Each of them was equipped with guns and bombs, though their weapons were out of date. Well, it was better than nothing.

The subway train station was somewhere no one would wish to be in. It was cramped with people getting on and off the train, and the smell, oh dear, it was worse than a decaying carcass in the forest. The heedless crowds kept walking back and forth, ignorant of the war going on between two kinds and they were the center point.

It didn’t take long before Chris saw a dark shadow and it happened to be an assassin who seemed to be following them all along. He brought his gaze to Theresa and gave her the look.

She glared back at him and walked forth. “Boys, let’s get rolling.”

After one, two, three more steps, bullets fired in all direction, targeting them. It turned out there wasn’t only one assassin in the train station, there was a handful of them, hiding from the far and hidden corners. Theresa ran to the left with the pack while Chris went the opposite way.

The crowds were screaming in terror as they tried to get into the train, which was already overloaded. As the bullets fired recklessly, it was inevitable for some people to get shot, somewhere on the shoulders and arms, but some were shot in the head and back. The chaos had caused stampede and bloodshed everywhere.

Chris pulled the screen off the drainage that led to the basement. Two dark shadows were chasing him from behind while the other went on the opposite way to corner him. As he got down, the sewage water splashed all over him. His thighs were submerged into the water, but he couldn’t care less. He ran toward the end of the tunnel where the light was, but before he even made it there, a dark shadow appeared before him.
