“You what?” Cin stepped to the side so Marzie could open the door.

“Well, I thought if I bought it, we might fix it up next. But someone got it before I could.” Marzie unlocked the door and swung it open. “At least it didn’t drive down comps in the area.”

Cin shook her head. “Nope. Not a house I’d like to take on. Sure, the comps in the area are good, but I don’t want to know what was really going on in Radford’s head. Most of the time, when you redo a house, you get glimpses into the previous residents. Radford threatened my girls, that’s all I need to know.”

Marzie swept up the property info sheets that were spread across the marble bar RJ and Chad had installed between the living room and dining room. “The fact that he shot Chad doesn’t matter?”

“Chad can survive most gun shots.” Cin smiled. Back when Chad had been a police officer, she’d always worried about him being shot. Since he had become a werewolf, she didn’t worry about that as much. Unless the shooter had silver bullets, it wasn’t something she had to worry about.

“I guess so, but someone shooting my man would piss me off.” Marzie picked up the sheets. “I hope my world never gets as strange as yours, Cin.”

“You can only hope.” Cin chuckled. “Sometimes trouble finds us, particularly those of us who have the ability to deal with it.” She leaned against the bar. “But you know something, you can’t worry about what may be, just look at the things you had a hand in creating. We took this awkward house that came with a protector determined to keep us from getting the job done, and through blood, sweat and tears, made it into something a nice family is going to enjoy for years to come. We all worked together and made it very pretty.”

Marzie tapped her toe on the hardwood floors that ran through most of the house. “You’re right. We did a good job. Now we get to relax until spring, right?”

“Right.” Cin sighed. She was always happy when a job was finished and she knew she was going to get some down time, at least until the next project with hidden secrets came along to challenge them. “Let’s go get some coffee.” She pointed Marzie toward the door so they could head out and lock the place up for the last time.
